DONT ASK DONT TELL: RESIST w/ Alfredo & Dee Diggs

DADT STANDS AGAINST THIS REGIME.
DONALD TRUMP AND HIS CABINET ARE FRAUDS.
THEY DO NOT HAVE THIS COUNTRY’S BEST INTEREST IN MIND.
THE SWAMP IS DEEPER THAN EVER.
RESIST.

We must make our voices heard for those who cannot do so.
And we must try to do it with intelligence.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the ACLU to help fight the oppression of human rights.

This month on deck two newcomers to the DADT stage but definitely not the DJ world:

~~~~~~~~
DEE DIGGS
~~~~~~~~
Dee Diggs is a DJ, event curator & organizer based in Boston, MA.

She is unapologetically black, queer, & femme.

She is building and using her influence to create space for marginalized groups to express & organize themselves. Her aim is to sustain more spaces where these groups are valued and thanked by name for their contributions to humanity. (Thank the OG Black innovators for House & Techno! Thank you, Disco-era Queens & Queers alike for the theatrics & fanfare of nightlife as we know it! etc.)

Her sound is on the A-side, grounded & self-referential, but on the the B-side, a dreamy and foreign pursuit. Genres & nationalities are merely invisible borders to cross. Trust Dee Diggs to deliver you like a time machine melding crisp seductive mixes & crass stereo blowing radio crunches!

The real measure of the Dee Diggs experience is the warm vibe that radiates through the room as the booth and the dance floor become one deep in the mix.

~~~~~~~
ALFREDO
~~~~~~~
As an Artist & Designer, Alfredo has had a hand over countless events and releases, creating visual tokens for some of the most important Artists in Dance Music and Hip-Hop. An Avid Collector, his love for Disco & House accurately displays what he plays as a DJ. In 2011 Together with Brenden Wesley, they founded a monthly Dance Party Called Social Studies, which saw the Boston debut of artist like Honey Soundsystem, Horse Meat Disco, Tony Humphries, The Black Madonna, Moodymann among others. The Format was simple: Disco | House | Techno. Underground music for those who care to pay attention.

and of course

DONT ASK DONT TELL: #NOFILTER HOLIDAY

Those of you who have come to DADT in the past know that our drag show isnt your normal drag show. We generally dont pull any punches. This month is going to be no different. In fact its going to be much more raw.

For those of you who dont know, #NoFilter is the edgiest, least PC, most wild and occasionally disgusting drag show you could ever attend. Its held at Jacques Cabaret each month and attendees usually end up with some kind of sauce in their hair or on their clothes before they leave. This month DADT is teaming up with #NoFilter to bring you a 'holiday' drag show of grotesque proportions. Expect to laugh, cry and be offended. This is drag at a whole new level.

Featuring the entire #NoFilter troop:
Violencia Exclamation Point
Emphysema Menthol One Hundereds
Severity Stone
Belle Bottoms
Raquel Supreeze

Wear a red and green raincoat. Its gonna get nasty.

With very special guest- DJ Judy
www.soundcloud.com/djjudy
Spinning classic gay house anthems from the past 30 years.

Plus resident DJ Colby Drasher serving up his selection of poppin party bangers that will have you begging for more boozy eggnog.

Mistletoe will be everywhere so you can find a cozy spot to make out on the dance floor or in some dark corner.

Projections and Photography by DADT resident media man Nick Day.

'All are welcome who welcome all' to Boston's queer party for everybody. Straight, gay, trans, queer- everybody. We love you.

So come get nasty with us this holiday season,
you will regret it we promise.

DONT ASK DONT TELL: Virgin Nights II

The music softens.
People close around the stage.
Your heart begins to race.
You hear your name announced over the speakers.
People cheer.
You walk slowly onto the stage.
You're wearing something glitzy af.
Your song comes on.
You go ham.
People start screaming and throwing dollar bills at you.
Eyes widen as you give it your all.
Your lipsync is flawless.
You actually pulled off every syllable.
That cutie youve been eyeing all night is in the corner living for your female impersonation of Cyndi Lauper on E.
The last note of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is played.
All those hours of thinking I could do drag flash before your eyes.
And you have learnt something new and bold about yourself.
Just one night of giving it a shot-
could 10 years later be you couldnt imagine your life without it.
And you have learnt something new and bold about yourself.

Virgin Nights II, DADT's second event solely devoted to all new comers to drag. First timers. Its a magical evening full of expression and encouragement.

To sign up please email dadtbooking@gmail.com in advance with your drag name and your song in mp3 format. Deadline to sign up is Nov 21st.

S T A T E M E N T
Drag is composed of many elements. It is a statement on gender identity and challenges our beliefs. It is performance art. It is also reality. Please respect each artists interpretation of drag in whatever form they conceive it. The best drag is entertaining but also enlightening.

DONT ASK DONT TELL: Pokemon & Anime (+ Ivy Drippe's Farewell Party) w/ guest DJ Slivik

The earliest form of commercial Japanese animation emerged in 1917. However it wasn’t until the 1960’s with the works of Osamu Tezuka that the characteristic style we know today really took hold internationally. As wiki puts it: “Being hand-drawn, anime is separated from reality by a crucial gap of fiction that provides an ideal path for escapism that audiences can immerse themselves into with relative ease. Diverse art styles are used and character proportions and features can be quite varied, including characteristically large emotive or realistically sized eyes.”

The hyper escapist realm of anime has grown to infatuate Americans (including a huge queer population) more and more with each passing decade. Probably do to its fantastical elements that often blur gender roles and societal norms. There are even strictly queer anime that straight people watch because they themselves are probably in the closet.

…Segway into Pokemon…

Pokemon has been around for 21 years! But it wasn’t until the launch of Pokemon GO that the craze extended into every realm of society. Walking down the street you will see indicators of everyday businesses jumping on board offering deals if you catch a Pokemon in their establishment. At Tasty Burger you can show them a screen cap and get free tater tots! Good ol’ America.

DADT has always been a place of expression and pushing boundaries. Therefore it only made perfect sense to take an art form such as anime and celebrate it for a night of wild fashion, make up and debauchery! Come dressed as any one of your favorite anime characters- Pokemon or not! Or come dressed as any one of the 726 distinctive Pokemon species!
